R. Duane's Story
Life since high school has been an amazing ride so far. The Lord has taken me to some amazing heights, and been with me through some very dark lows. I'm thankful for them all.
After graduation, I went began a business pin striping cars. Cars have always been a love of mine, so making a living while working with them was a treat.
Two years after graduation, I married my high school Sweetheart, Lisa, and I've been blessed to have her in my heart, and by my side for the past 28 years. We have two children. Our daughter is married and will soon have her PhD, and our first grandbaby. Our son is majoring in political science at Baylor.
Ministry has been a significant part of my life since becoming a Christian my junior year of high school. It became my profession in 1987. I started working on my Bachelor's degree in 1986, taking a class here and a class there, and finally graduated December 7, 2007 from Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie.
In January of 1990, I came to pastor Praise Temple in Waco. I've been privileged to pastor some of the greatest people I've ever known in...Expand for more
my life. Of course ministry includes everything from preaching to cleaning toilets. I'm part of helping people's lives when they're born, and when they die, when they're married, and when they divorce. Pastoring has included doing a radio program weekly for over 17 years, being a police chaplain and riding with the officers, and even serving as president of the chamber of commerce.
Life nearly came to an unexpected and early end on September 3rd, 2005 when Lisa and I were hit head on by another car. I'm so thankful that our injuries have healed and that we are blessed to enjoy life together and to watch our children's lives unfold. God is faithful and good.
Had a great time at both reunions. Since my Victoria High friends still let me go back to the reunions there, it is always great to see old friends. Ellison's reunion was also great too.
The major event in life right now is the arrival of my first grandchild in about 25 days or so. I'm so looking forward to my granddaughter's arrival. You can count on a picture being added when she does. Sorry, I hear being a grandparent can be like that.
